Elephants

Animals of Africa

Grevyi Zebra
Orix and Zebra
Baboon, actually there were a group of these guys that visited our hotel while I was at the pool. I didn't have my camera then and they got chased away and that is when they ran off behind our rooms and started fighting in the trees and ran across the river. Susan was in her room at the time and didn't really want to go out till I got back. The noise is quite chilling, and these same guys had kept our guide awake the night before after they started screaming after hearing a lion in the area.
We probably saw about 100 elephants.
These guys or I should probably say gals, because the guys go rogue when they grow up and are forced out of the herd by their mothers, were in the river bed digging holes in search of water. All the other animals tend to follow them because of this.

Out of Africa

I am back, and have just started going through my pictures. The trip was fantastic.  Just to think two days ago I was on SAFARI!! How cool is that.
We stayed in a great hotel in the Samburu Game Reserve, the Sarova Shaba Game Lodge. This guy a Samburu tribes man, Leklawai, hung around the restaurant during our meals. A really nice guy but he spoke very little English. He did teach us a few words, but I think that I have forgotten most of them.

Rwanda with Ian Rankin

Today is the our last day in Rwanda, so far we have had a great time. I will have many pictures and stories to tell when I get back. This is only the second time that we have had internet access and I have not been able to do much with my mail, so sorry I havent been able to get back with anyone that has mailed me. Last night we had dinner with ian Rankin, too bad he wasn'nt the famous author, but at least it makes for an interesting story and I won' tell Roger otherwise.

Straight No Chaser

Went to see Straight No Chaser last night in Richmond and IU East. They do a very good show. They were all really good but there were a couple with really exceptional voices, like Jesse who is standing in the middle when they switch to "Stayin' Alive" in the video below.

There singing is good but the comical blurbs and the mixing of different songs was the thing that caught my attention, like the video I posted before, !2 Days of Christmas. If you have the chance see them live. The funny thing about the evening was when I first arrived I had to go to the bathroom and I think almost all the members were in there when I was. It was just a feeling at first but once they started I was right.A little weird, but interesting.

Geneology

So this was actually what I had set out to find. Now I was assuming this would be an old headstone, but I was gravely wrong. Now the question is who would have put up a relatively new headstone? My dad was surprised and he had no memory of the grave being like this. There was also a World War marker, probably indicating a veteran, but I don't know who this could be. Now I have a new quest to find out someone who might know something about this headstone. And who all might be buried here.

Minster

As noted before as I drove down the road I would see another church and then the last on was in Minster, a town I had never heard of.
And on the same block behind the church was the old public school. Now it was offices for the area Catholic churches.

Churches

I took a quick trip home this weekend and took the back roads. My purpose was to visit the cemetery where my ggg grandfather is supposed to be buried. On the way I cam across a string of small Catholic communities. Most of these churches were visible from one another.
